With over 800 attractions, this historic county of North England is well worth a visit for people of all ages. Full of beauty and culture, Yorkshire has acquired the name of God’s Own County and is home to two of the top ten most visited cities in the United Kingdom. Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden, Ripon

Situated 30 miles from the historic city of York, Fountains Abbey is a world heritage site of beautiful countryside and spectacular places of interest. Home to ten historic buildings dating back 800 years and Georgian water gardens, you are sure to be in for an unforgettable experience. A sight not to be missed is the Music and Lights event at Christmas which provides festive fun for all the family.

Whitby

A small seaside town in the North of Yorkshire, Whitby is a popular tourist destination famed for its rich history and unique beauty. With superb local food, world famous festivals and quaint fishing villages, Whitby proves to be a scenic getaway for adults and children alike. For the literature fans amongst us, the town features in books and television, most famously in Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula.’ Whitby is home to breathtaking moorland vistas and the highest cliffs in England and is perfect for a romantic weekend.

Log Heights, Harrogate

For the more active and hands on tourist, Log Heights is an outdoor activity centre based in the grounds of Ripley Castle. Yorkshire Sculpture Park consists of 500 acres of historic landscape and five indoor galleries. Exhibitions and sculptures are displayed all over the park with the stunning Yorkshire countryside as a back drop. You can even try your hand at a sculpture workshop or simply take in the breathtaking surroundings whilst being entertained by musicians and singers at one of the Opera North events held at the chapel. Just don’t forget to wear sensible shoes as access is via a cross country walking route.

Brontë Parsonage Museum, Haworth

The home of the world’s most famous literary family, the Bronte Parsonage was lived in by the Bronte sisters from 1820 to 1861. Popular to fans of Bronte novels, this is of interest to those seeking the source of their inspiration. Lovingly preserved, the museum is full of memorabilia and facts and information for visiting tourists. Set in the wild moorland next to the picturesque village of Haworth it is well worth a visit.

I want to visit these places! Thanks for the interesting tour of sites we should see. I love British names - we don't have anything as elegant as Fountains Abbey or Whitby in my parts. Great hub - voted up and interesting.
